Starting Again

I wanted to start a different blog for a few reasons. First, JulieSlaysTheDrumph.com was (primarily) Julie’s story for her friends and family. It started to drift over time as she declined and I started writing about her care, but writing more on that blog just feels wrong. Concluding that blog with an obituary seems fitting. It was certainly how we always feared it might end.

Second, I want to write about different things. Right now what is on my mind is all the things I didn’t know about dying and grieving that I want to share with all the other spouses of brain tumor patients. Eventually, it will shift to whatever comes next in my choose-your-own-adventure book.

Finally, title of that blog was chosen at a time back before the culture wars had become a cult of personality around Trump. Though I have no kind words for the man, I’d rather not stoke animus with a title so steeped in politics any more.

  1. Holding Julie, forever, in my heart. I am grieving long distance and am choosing to believe that every yellow flower I see is for Julie 🌻
Hugs to you, Haley and AJ.

  2. This is Bonnie from Rosharon, friend of Jessie & your Dad. I have followed Julie’s Blog & admired your strength & love for her & your family. Having been caretaker for my husband, who lost his battle with cancer 16 months, I can empathize with some of what you experienced. I also know there is nothing I can say to fill the hole in your heart; it will always be there. Since I am spiritual, I will continue to pray for you & your entire family as you take baby steps forward & backward at this time. I hope that writing us cathartic for you; you have a story to tell. It reminds me of your Dad’s love for writing; May be someday you will finish his book. Hugs & peace.
