Being Transgender on Twitter

Evidently on Twitter transgender people are fair game for harassment. If we try to confront those coming after us, the social media site suspends our accounts, not the accounts of those persecuting us.

The company probably knows that only about one person in two or three hundred is trans. Let’s say we make up 0.5% of the population and that we are as likely to use Twitter as anyone else. A social media company is going to be far more interested in not annoying 99.5% of its users than in protecting a small, vulnerable minority that is not infrequently murdered or driven to suicide by chronic ridicule and threats.

Shielding bigots and bullies is good business.
